Quick Shots for 09/08/2017

Remember the big Twinkie scare of 2012? You know, when we were all told that Twinkies were be being discontinued and we would no longer be able to buy the creme-filled, yellow sponge cake treats? As it turned out, it wasn’t even a year before they were back on grocery store shelves. Not only that, but today we have additional Twinkie products, such as Deep Fried Twinkies and Twinkies Ice Cream. Now, I’m not one to give much credence to conspiracy theories, but in this case I willing to at least consider that possibility that the whole “scare” was nothing but a ploy to increase Twinkie demand.

This past weekend after watching two movies that featured Hugh Grant, I’m beginning to believe that Grant might be one of my favorite actors. This is based on the fact that I can’t remember any role I have seen him play that I have not enjoyed. Maybe this weekend I’ll check out Florence Foster Jenkins. Not only does it have Hugh Grant (and Meryl Streep as an added bonus), but it is included in the list of free movies available with Amazon Prime.

Still no Nintendo Switch, but I did buy 33 more games this past week. If you like casual games, such as match-3 tile games (7 Wonders), Match-3 ball games (Luxor), hidden object games, time management games and other puzzle games, then you might want to hop on over to Bundle Stars and check out the Dollar Jumbo Bundle. As the name suggests, you can get 33 games of Mumbo Jumbo, one of the top casual game publishers, for only $1. After one hour of play you have pretty much gotten your money’s worth. The deal runs through September 28th.

My wife and I live in Central Florida and are currently keeping an eye on hurricane Irma. Right now the extent of the storm’s impact on us is uncertain (as is true of almost all hurricanes). We can expect anything ranging from some rain and wind to more severe circumstances, such as prolonged power outages and property damage. I was here in 2004 when Charlie and Frances hit. Most of my shingles were ripped from my roof and I sustained major water damage to my garage. That was the extent of it. Weather-wise, right now it doesn’t look like Irma’s impact to Deb and I specifically will be any worse than Charlie, and I have more faith in the house I am living in now compared to my house in 2004.

I say all this mainly to let you know that while I still hope to post an article on Monday and a gameplay on Wednesday, preparations and/or power supply issues might prevent me from having the time or ability to post. Also, if you are so inclined, please lift up prayers not only for my family but more so for those who have already been affected and will be affected by Irma over the next several days.
